Held at the Stafford's Perry Hotel, Petoskey
The HBANM Annual Awards dinner was on November 1 at the Stafford’s Perry Hotel in Petoskey. About 50 members and guests attended. The presenters were Dawn Crandall, Executive Vice President for Government Relations at the HBA of Michigan and Janet Chambers with Build for the Future, a building trades workforce development initiative in Northern Michigan. Crandall reviewed her activities with state elected officials in either blocking or getting passed key legislation affecting the building industry. In addition, she announced that the non-profit Skilled to Build will receive a $2 million grant from the state to purchase a book on building trades careers that will be given to every high school student in the state.

She talked about her efforts, along with the help of many HBANM members, to reach high school students and 20 to 35-year-olds, about the value of long-term careers in construction and building-related industries. The HBANM is a partner with the Build for the Future program.
